“Among all the evil and sickness, there’s this island of kindness and love. It’s called the ywca. During the absolute worst time of my life, the ywca provided hope for my family, help for my children, and safety from abuse. The ywca are angels.”
–Kim, domestic violence survivor and mother to Jaime, who was sexually assaulted by her stepfather
What if you could provide hope, safety, and help to a family this holiday?
Many of us have experienced tough times. Maybe someone was our angel — someone who provided hope, who changed our life — who maybe even saved it. For someone in need — someone abused, hurt, and alone — you can be that person.
By donating to ywca clark county, you can help people like Kim and Jaime. Fleeing domestic violence, Kim sought refuge at the ywca’s SafeChoice shelter. At that time, she also found out her daughter Jaime was being abused by her stepfather. Once in the protective care of the ywca, Kim and Jaime began their journey of healing. Shelter advocates helped them find hope through therapy, group counseling and advocacy. Today, Kim has a safer home for her children, a job, and is on the road to recovery thanks to the ywca.
This year, we need your support more than ever.
In 2010, demand for ywca services increased 10%. At the same time, we, like so many organizations, have had to reduce our budget. What does this mean to our most vulnerable community members? The children and families who are desperately looking for their angel?
It means we can’t continue the level of work we need to.
It means shortened advocacy time with a 13-year-old who has been raped. It means a longer wait to meet with an advocate who can help create a safety plan for an abused woman. It means that children in foster care who have been abused, neglected, and forgotten will not have a CASA to watch over them.
Will you help our most vulnerable children and families?
We depend on donors like you to do our life-saving work.
Your generosity funds services such as:
- 24-hour on-call medical advocacy for sexual assault survivors
- training for volunteers who help courts find the safest homes for abused children
- a safe, secure shelter for domestic violence survivors
- workshops to teach teens in foster care about living on their own
